Detail of 4 photographs.
Photographs taken in People’s Parks around Sweden depicting their varying architecture and scenography. Each park was constructed by its local citizens during their free time. All the parks in Democracy are currently active. The photographs were taken before the opening season, during closing days, and sometimes between two festivities, always avoiding the crowds. The title Democracy comes from the slogan used by the People’s Parks and Houses organization. The first People’s House was established in 1890 in Kristiansstad and the first People’s Park in Malmö in 1893. There are 658 member organizations in Sweden.
